How Much Wine Do I Need for a Wedding?

Count glasses, then choose a split that suits dinner and the room.

Use five glasses per 750 ml bottle

A standard 750 ml bottle is a useful planning unit for about five five-ounce wine pours. Start from the number of wine servings in your bar plan, then round up to whole bottles and cases.

Wine demand changes with the menu, weather, time of day, and whether cocktails or beer are also offered. A dinner-focused reception generally needs a different split than a dancing-forward evening.

Choose a thoughtful red and white split

Ask the caterer what they are serving and whether the season leans toward chilled whites, rosé, or fuller reds. If you have no guest history to go on, a balanced split is a calm place to begin—not a rule.

Keep bottles chilled in stages and leave room for water on every table. A wine plan works better when guests can find a glass of water without asking.

Separate sparkling wine from dinner wine

If you are offering a toast, count those flutes separately. If sparkling wine is part of cocktail hour, include it with the other reception pours instead of assuming it is only ceremonial.

Run the wedding calculator, then check case sizes, delivery terms, and return policies with the venue or retailer before the final order.
